OUR 2022 EVENTS
Our 2022 schedule of events was, without a doubt, our best programme yet. Wine lovers had the opportunity to dine with a Master Sommelier, perfect the art of food and wine pairings and even go on a wine-walking tour. Some of our events are exclusive to Birmingham Wine Weekend, and others offer a discounted price only available to festival go-ers. Take a look at our 2022 events programme below.
MONDAY 4 APRIL

Beef & Wine Masterclass

This event takes place in Gaucho’s luxurious private dining room. You’ll start the masterclass with a welcome drink before learning all about what Gaucho does best – beef and wine! During the masterclass you’ll taste three different cuts of beef, each paired with a different wine.

Get prepped for Birmingham Wine Weekend by learning to taste like a pro!
In this session Tony Elvin of The Wine Events Company will coach you through the basics of tasting, looking at quality, aromas and tastes.
You’ll taste examples of grape varieties from different countries, discovering the impact climate, food and production methods can have on the wine in your glass.
A fun and engaging event (with plenty of wine!) that will help you make the most of your wine weekend journey.

Let them blow your perceptions about English wines away by exploring some of their best wines from the 2020 vintage from our Urban Winery along with cheese pairings, led by Chief Wine Maker Jose Quintana. Join Birmingham Wine School to discover why certain foods are a match made in heaven for wine whilst others are the ultimate turn-off. If you’re new to sake or have enjoyed drinking it before, but want to learn more, this session will be packed with information on what sake is, where it came from and of course, what it tastes like! This event takes place in The Bottle Shop above the venue.

If you enjoy drinking sake regularly or visiting Japan on holiday, this tasting session will introduce you to the vaster world of sake you’ll try four sakes interesting sakes, such as unpasteurised, unfiltered and premium expressions like Daiginjō. All four sakes have been choose by Shibuya founder and inhouse sake expert, Samuel Boulton to expand your world of sake! This event takes place in The Bottle Shop above the venue.

Orange Wine & Wings TASTING

Wine Freedom is teaming up with Chance & Counters as part of their first ever Junk Food and Wine Tasting series, which will explore the wonderful world of wine and food pairing with a twist; how many times have you ordered take out at home and wondered what to pair with it? In this series, Wine Freedom will take popular take out/comforting junk foods and pair them with their delicious wines. In the first event of this series, you will be tasting 3 Orange wines, along with a selection of wings from the Wingmasters at Chance and Counters, a Boardgame Cafe and Bar well known for their delicious wings, just around the corner in the Custard Factory.
You will be given an overview of what Orange Wine is, whilst tasting some of their finest examples, and guided through the food pairing, in a fun and informal tasting.

Starting at Arch 13 at Connolly’s, this event combines two of our favourite things: Wine (of course) and the magnificent Jewellery Quarter. Join Tony Elvin of The Wine Events Company to explore the history of the Jewellery Quarter on a leisurely walk, taking in some of the historic buildings and hearing about the famous history of this fascinating Birmingham neighbourhood. During the walk, there will be appropriately timed breaks to enjoy a tutored wine tasting at four of the Birmingham Wine Weekend venues.
