4 Great Excuses To Have A Glass Of Wine At The Rep Cafe & Bar
We absolutely love the newly refurbished Cafe & Bar at The Birmingham Rep Theatre. If you haven’t popped in yet, you can expect an almost Scandinavian feel, modern wood-finishes, plenty of natural light, great views of the city and service with a smile. If you need an excuse to go and check it out for yourself, worry not – we’ve got four excuses right here:
1. You can support the arts with every sip
Did you know, that when you sip a glass of wine at The Rep Cafe & Bar you’re actually supporting the arts! Profits from this BWW venue all support The Birmingham Rep to continue to develop fantastic productions, to provide free and discounted theatre tickets for under-represented groups, to engage schools and community groups with the arts and so much more!
2. Your order supports local businesses across the region
The team behind the cafe have given a great deal of thought to who they work with, sourcing local suppliers wherever possible. Their coffee machine was made right here in Birmingham and they source their coffee from Iron and Fire in Shropshire. The delicious cakes that will undoubtedly tempt you on arrival are from Saporous Bakery in Wolverhampton. It’s the local milk-man that delivers their milk and if you fancy a beer it’s Warwickshire’s Purity Brewery on tap.
3. Rest easy knowing the environment is at the heart of The Rep’s decision making
The Rep, of course, eliminated single use plastic yonks ago but they’ve gone one step further and significantly reduced single use glass across both beers and soft drinks too. They prefer to use aluminium cans wherever possible. The team talked passionately to us about how this is easier to recycle, reduces the energy needed to cool the drinks and generally reduces their carbon footprint. If you get a take-out it’ll be served in a compostable cup too.
4. Protect the oceans!
Yep, you read that right. The Rep’s wine supplier of choice is Sea Change Wine. You can find out more about them here. Sea Change share The Rep’s values around reducing their environmental impact. They use lighter-weight glass bottles, renewable plant-based closures and label paper from sustainable forests, made in part from grape waste!
The team at Sea Change believe that everyone has a role to play in protecting our oceans and they wanted to combine their love of great wines with a desire to play their part in this important mission. In addition to reducing their own environmental impact they also make a donation to marine charities for every bottle sold. They’ve already raised nearly £200,000.
