BIRMINGHAM WINE WEEKEND

THE JOURNAL

IT’S THE MOST WINE-DERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!

From Jingle Bells and fairy lights to Santa hats and Silent Night, the BWW2020 team is fully in the spirit of Christmas. There’s never been a better time to show your nearest and dearest a little bit of love, regardless of if they’ve been naughty or nice all year. Whether you’re looking to treat the wine-lover in your life or introduce a friend to your favourite tipple, we’ve teamed up with Loki Wine to find gift ideas for all. So, pour yourself a mulled wine and settle in for this season’s sensational selection:

The one for the wine connoisseur?

If you’re on the search for a wine that is certain to bring cheer to even the most experienced wine-lover, Phil Innes at Loki Wine suggests the Chateau de Tourneville Pomerol 2016.

He said, “Go classic! There are so many wines that you can choose, but I’d go for this one as although it is a classic Bordeaux, it is a bit different. What’s more, it comes in a gift box, which is unusual for traditional wines.”

The one for the person who is looking for something rare?

We all have that person on the gift-list who likes to be different, so we went looking for one that is sure to stop every sommelier in their tracks. Cue Vinteloper’s Urban Winery Project Dry Red #6.

This one time limited release wine is only produced for one year only. We only have a tiny amount left and it looks great, as well as being really unusual,” said Phil.

The one for the newbie to wine?

Looking to inspire someone to get into wine this winter? Look no further than Feudi San Gregorio Greco di Tufo Cuttitzi. It comes highly recommended from Phil, who said, “This is a great white: the new bottle looks lovely, but more importantly the juice is fantastic! This is going to be a style of wine that is going to be HUUUGE in the next few years as people are moving from Sauvignon to these crisp dry Italian varieties.”
