BIRMINGHAM WINE WEEKEND
THE JOURNAL
Vinoteca
Welcome to Birmingham
When we heard the news that Vinoteca was coming to Birmingham, we were excited.
We were very excited.
Vinoteca joins Birmingham’s growing list of specialist wine bars; an award winning and well loved list. Birmingham wine lovers are lucky to have such fantastic choices.
Located on Chamberlain Square, Vinoteca overlooks Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and the Town Hall. The brand has made its home on a beautiful public square, surrounded by iconic architecture, the perfect base for Vinoteca’s first venture outside of London.
Boasting a 200 strong wine list, choice certainly isn’t an issue here! Find something you like and you can take it home with you too, thanks to their handy bottle shop.
For our first visit, we opted for the ‘Pink Punk Wine Paddle’, one of two flights available at the moment featuring a moreish and interesting selection.
First up:
‘Crystal’ Croatian Pet Nat, 2020
Renegade
Lombardy, Italy
The grapes for our first sip were picked in Northern Italy but the wine is made in East London. Fresh raspberries on the palate bring a refreshing start to this flight on a very warm summer day.
Next:
‘Har’ Rose, 2020
Dagon Clan Dealu Mare,
Romania
This is another fascinating choice from a first class vineyard and winery. The tasting notes read; crunchy red berries, blossom, pink grapefruit and cream. Not a wine we would have necessarily considered, so great to be introduced to it in this flight.
Finally, our favourite…
Riverland Nero d’Avola Rose, 2021
Gluck & Bray
Riverland Australia
This Nero d’Avola is sustainably grown, pressed immediately and fermented in a tank. Jam packed full of dark fruit flavours and a touch of spice, we will be ordering this one again.
Food and wine are, of course, life-long partners and Vinoteca is more than just a wine bar. Choose from a selection of bar snacks, small plates, sharing platters, main meals and puds. The addition of wine pairing recommendations on the menu makes for easy decision-making if the full wine list feels a little overwhelming.
You won’t be disappointed with the menu, a wide choice from light lunches to three course dinners. If you’re looking for an excuse to try their food fare – why not take a look at their festival menu for Birmingham Restaurant Festival?
If the wine and food isn’t enough to tempt you, you will also be treated to beautiful views of the city through their floor to ceiling windows, a cool air conditioned building (which we are absolutely here for with the current weather forecast), and friendly attentive service.
Welcome to Birmingham Vinoteca. We’ll be back!
